ABSTRACT The government of Uganda is faced with the challenge of child labour in the cotmtry. Child labour contributes to a violation of the rights of children to education and protection from economic exploitation and it is putting at risk the cmmtry's progress by limiting the potential of its workforce. The problem of child labour has not attracted the expected attention it should because of a number of reasons. A number of issues have contributed to the increase in child labour in Uganda. The most prevalent of all being the high rate of poverty in the cmmtry. Due to the ever increasing poverty levels among the low income earners in the cmmtry most parents have found it increasingly difficult to support their children and give them the basics of life which is why most children, in a bid to help their parents, have joined the work force to supplement on their families' meager income. With this research, it is hoped that better policies will be enacted by key stakeholders and enforcement of these policies be strengthened and improved so as to have a Uganda free from child labour. This research is part of the study of the effects of child labour and its causes.
